Chicago El Stories : A project by Jonathan Gitelson
Passengers were asked to share a memory of a place of significane from their lives in Chicago. The locations described in their stories were then photographed and each image was paired with an excerpt of text from the corresponding interview.
Update: As I listened to these further, I noticed one in particular that I can connect with. I used to work at a small design firm in River North and my morning commute consisted of taking the Brown or Purple line to the Chicago stop. Every morning between Armitage and Sedwick, we’d come upon a bend in the tracks and the skyline would reveal itself beyond an open playfield. Without fail, I would see that skyline and automatically would think how lucky I was to be living in such a beautiful city.
If you click on the top row, about half way in. The thumbnail directly underneath the “45’” you’ll hear a girl describe that exact same feeling at the same area of the tracks and you can see that view.
I miss Chicago.
