I’ve always been a stickler for clean Photoshop documents. Name your layers properly, group similar elements into folders, use the color codes as needed. As a UIE, I’ve worked with some trainwrecks of a PSD and it always hurts a little when I have to look for ‘Layer 34’ to add a drop shadow.
I just spent about 15 minutes cleaning up the structure of my current Photoshop file so when I right click everything is in a bulleted list. I hope this saves me at least 20 minutes on the programming side but even if not, I still think it’s a worthwhile exercise to train myself into doing this in the future.
