What are you willing to put up with at your job?
evrt:
This is something I would actually really like to hear from people about. And not to vent or simply out of current frustrations. What kind of crap are you actually willing to put up with before you just quite? I guess it always depends upon the person, and their personality, but I’m trying to get some sense of what degree of BS is normal to deal with.
Would you work extra hours unpaid to make sure the job gets done?
Put up with a ridiculously rude boss who yells all the time?
Feel free to write anything. Or if you want it to remain anonymous, you can email me directly.
Thanks
There’s no way I could answer this question in 140 characters so here goes it.
It’s quite a coincidence that you made this post on a day that I billed nearly 15 hours worth of client work. I take pride in my work and will do whatever necessary to get a project completed on time. When I know it’s time to walk away from a job is when I don’t respect my coworkers and/or boss.
I’ve only had one job where that was the case. It was at a small design shop where I just didn’t fit in. I didn’t feel that my suggestions and ideas were taken seriously by the group and, because of that, I felt I couldn’t give 100% - and that feeling sucks. It showed in my performance, attitude and overall outlook. I dreaded arriving in the morning and spent the rest of the day counting down the minutes until I could leave the office. Within 4 months, I was gone.
I can deal with a boss that yells all the time (I had one of those too) but when I no longer respect them, that’s my breaking point.
