This weekend is the Ann Arbor Art Fair. Some of my favorite memories from college happened during this event. Because of all the vendor booths, at night, all the streets are shut down and you just wander down the yellow lane lines after the bars close checking out sculptures.
To be honest, most of the booths are filled with cliche photos you’d see hanging in any middle-class household. As an art student, I would think, “Maybe I can find some inspiration this year” but I inevitably saw thousands of sunsets. And sunsets only.
There was once a massive, 8 foot tall bear, posed in an attacking position, made out of rusty old nails selling for $25k. It was situated right outside my apartment building door. Every night, in my drunken stooper home from the bar, I would stop and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making this sculpture. It’s still one of my favorite memories from college. (photo)
