We’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming after this short intermission

Context: Part 1 | Part 2

My rants weren’t aimed at you in any way. I actually think you’re one of the best Spartys I know when it comes to this stuff. You and I are both pretty open-minded about the rivalry. Hell, I even understand your reply to my Denard-urday post. I would be pumped had my team won (you would’ve been bombarded with 10,000 different pictures of Denard in the dashboard).

Every fan base has jackasses - I get that - but it seems that lately the level-headed Spartys are quickly being outnumbered by the jackass Spartys. Michigan fans may be arrogant, obnoxious and annoying but that’s the worst you’ll find (I might add, what rival fan base isn’t?). We talk before the game but we settle it on the field and move on. That’s why the Big House has the reputation of being so quiet if you score quickly on us. When you lose/are losing, what more are you supposed to say? We support our team and that’s the best we can do.

It’s State fans who do this sort of stuff to random cars parked on the street in Ann Arbor after a win that my rants were directed at. They have a history of public damage after games. These fans, seem to take issue with the “settle it on the field” part and feel entitled to do whatever they please in order to express their happiness/anger. They look for a reaction from rival fans and will do just about anything to get that. They thrive on the losing team’s failure instead of relishing in their team’s success. It’s like they didn’t care if they win or lose, they just want to be there for the “party” afterwards. It’s those antagonists that I’m addressing.

The MSU fan base is treading dangerously close to Ohio State fans in this regard and that saddens me. Everything Michigan should always be better than everything Ohio.
