For his senior project, Jax de Leon disected the entire Sufjan Steven’s Come on Feel the Illinoise album.
This project is an experiment in taking an audio recording of music that is beautiful and personally meaningful to many listeners, deconstructing it from different vantage points, rearranging it, and building it up again into visual interpretations.
The above graph charts every second of the album, each row is a minute. The gray squares represent intramentals, multiple voices are shown by squares split into sections, etc.
Although I apperciate the effort involved in creating these charts and graphs, I have a problem relating these flat two-dimensional designs to the complex layering of Steven’s music. (via)
